About TRBBL
The Tasmanian Recreational Blood Bowl Leagues — who we are, what we play, and how to get involved.
Our Story
TRBBL — the Tasmanian Recreational Blood Bowl Leagues — is a network of grassroots Blood Bowl communities spanning Tasmania. We are coaches, painters, rules-lawyers, and dice-blaming enthusiasts who share one thing in common: an inexplicable love for a game where a Troll might eat your ball carrier on a critical turn.
Our three leagues operate independently in Hobart, Launceston, and the Burnie–Devonport region, but we come together for inter-league events and tournaments like Lucha Bowl and Mutant Bowl. Whether you are in Hobart, Launceston, Devonport, Burnie, or anywhere in between — there is a local community of Blood Bowl coaches near you.
We welcome coaches at every level of experience. First-timers are not just tolerated — they are celebrated. We have been that confused new coach rolling double skulls on your very first block, and we remember how much it helped to have a patient opponent who explained the rules (twice, without sighing).
Get Involved
The best way to get started is to join the TRBBL Discord server. It is where we organise games, announce tournaments, share painting progress, and generally commiserate about dice. Come and say hello — we do not bite (unlike some of our teams).
You can also find us on Facebook and Messenger.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Blood Bowl?
Blood Bowl is a tabletop fantasy sports game published by Games Workshop. Two players each control a team of fantasy creatures — Orcs, Elves, Dwarfs, Undead, and many more — competing to score touchdowns on a gridded pitch. Think American Football meets Warhammer, with dice that will inevitably betray you at the worst possible moment. It is famously chaotic, deeply strategic, and endlessly entertaining.
Is there a Blood Bowl league in Tasmania?
Yes! TRBBL runs active leagues across Tasmania. We have leagues based in Hobart (Southern Tasmania), Launceston (Northern Tasmania), and North Tasmania (serving the Burnie–Devonport corridor). All three leagues are open to new members.
How do I join a Blood Bowl league in Hobart?
The easiest way to get started is to join the TRBBL Discord server at discord.gg/6wdMBhS3Df and introduce yourself. We can help you find opponents, borrow a team to try the game, and answer any rules questions. No miniatures or prior experience required.
How do I join a Blood Bowl league in Launceston?
Jump on the TRBBL Discord and let us know you are in Launceston. The Launceston coaches are very active and welcoming to new players. We can sort you out with a trial game and get you into the next season.
Do I need to buy miniatures to play Blood Bowl?
Not to start! The TRBBL community has spare teams and can loan you a team while you figure out which faction you want to collect. Once you decide to take the plunge, the official Games Workshop Blood Bowl sets are a great place to start, and there are many third-party manufacturers with fantastic alternatives.
Can I use 3D printed miniatures?
Absolutely — and you would not be alone. We have a number of keen printers in the community who print their own teams, custom players, and unique conversions. 3D prints are very much welcome. Jump on the Discord if you want tips on files, printers, or painting your freshly printed squad.
Is Blood Bowl suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. The core rules are straightforward and can be learned in a single game. The depth comes from team-building, player development across a season, and the joyful chaos of dice. We love teaching new coaches — your first loss to a cascading sequence of 1s is a rite of passage.
What Blood Bowl teams can I play?
The current edition supports a wide range of teams: Human, Elf, Dark Elf, High Elf, Wood Elf, Orc, Skaven, Undead, Necromantic, Chaos, Nurgle, Lizardmen, Dwarf, Halfling, Ogre, Norse, Amazon, Slann, and more. Each team plays very differently — ask on Discord and we can recommend a team that suits your playstyle.
